VIOLATING JULIAN ASSANGE: Kristina and Celia talk to human rights lawyer and UN rapporteur on torture, Dr. Nils Melzer, who visited Assange in prison to assess whether or not the Wikileaks publisher has been a victim of torture and/or human rights violations. Dr. Melzer talks about how, having been exposed for ten years to a highly arbitrary judicial environment during which his due process rights were consistently violated, and having also been subjected to various forms of cruel and degrading treatment during that time, Assange suffers symptoms identical to those seen in victims of long-term psychological torture. The responsible nations—Sweden, the U.K., the U.S. and Ecuador, reject Dr. Melzer’s assessment, that was made with the help of two eminent medical experts on torture.
